Have you spotted our Maisy sofa range?

It’s a new collection we’ve launched in partnership with Ideal Home.

Contemporary, comfy and classy, it also happens to be available in the next hot interior design colour – malachite.

What colour is malachite green?

It’s a stunning colour that’s hard to miss.

A vivid, bluey-green, malachite is a luxury gemstone in the jewellery world that varies in colour, from bright to dark green, usually with ripples of different shades, and sometimes gold or copper.

Interestingly, malachite is a mineral that’s been mined for centuries, as early as 4,000 BC.

The Egyptians are said to have used it for ornamental purposes, as well as grinding it down to paint with and use for cosmetic purposes.

The name reportedly stems from the word, ‘malache’, an Ancient Greek word, which means green.

What does green symbolize in interior design?

The Ancient Egyptians saw the colour green/malachite as being highly symbolic and representing life and fertility.

They reportedly referred to an eternal paradise and believed a Field of Malachite was waiting for them in the afterlife.

Fast forward to the present day and green is associated with nature.

Because of this, it’s often used to create calming environments that also have an air of freshness about them.

A primary colour, green is also associated with growth, safety and success.

What colours go with malachite green?

Given the fact it’s a vibrant colour, it’d be easy to think it’s difficult to pair with other shades.

However, this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Malachite green looks sensational alongside a whole host of bright and neutral colours, including:

  • Crisp white
  • Warm cream
  • Statement black
  • Rich red
  • Bright yellow
  • Deep purple
  • Golden shades
  • Orange accents

Tip – Because it’s a jewel tone, malachite works particularly well with other jewel tones, such as dark blues (i.e. teal), rich blues (i.e. sapphire) and dark red (i.e. burgundy).

Is green trending in interior design?

Given its primary colour roots, green is a staple shade that’s always remained popular.

As for ‘trending’ status, the arrival of malachite on the interior design scene means it most definitely is now.

Perhaps it’s because of the wealth of colours that go with green or its connections with nature that make us instinctively make us reach out to it?

Also, don’t forget the fact it’s a shade that’s capable of looking great in any room.

Think about it, we all know of a green kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, nursery, dining room, office or other space that’s featured green and looked great, right?

As for complementary colours, green sits right in the centre of the colour wheel so has this wonderful ability to go with warm and colour colours.

For instance, you can pair it with:

  • Yellow
  • Pink
  • White
  • Orange
  • Grey
  • Other shades of green

How can you use malachite around your home?
