Not limited to springtime, the timeless botanicals interior trend offers the beauty of nature all year round, creating a grounding environment and adding a little brightness to your day.

Keep reading to discover how you can incorporate a horticultural touch to your home.

What is the Botanical trend?

Botanical interior design is all about inviting the outdoors in and embracing nature through the use of plants, prints and patterns, and introducing pieces made from organic, raw materials into the home to inspire a sense of stability and calm.

Derived from the Biophilic design, the botanical style harnesses our evolutionary need to connect ourselves with nature, helping us feel grounded.

For centuries, the beauty of the outdoors has soothed troubled minds.

I suggest infusing nature-inspired themes into your home, a seamless match with this trend. The concept of 'bringing the outside in' not only aligns perfectly with this style but also offers substantial benefits to mental and physical well-being, effectively reducing stress and cultivating a serene environment.

The demand for adopting a more tranquil way of living and turning our homes into havens has grown rapidly in recent months and years. The stresses and strains of life, such as the current cost of living crisis, personally spur me on a self-soothing mission to build my own sanctuary and I want to help you do the same by incorporating the Botanical trend into your living space.

How to incorporate the trend into your home

I've discovered there are numerous ways to bring the Botanical trend into the home that I'd love to share with you.

Go full-on foliage with a floral feature wall, or add subtle touches through the use of soft furnishings, accessories and artwork.

I'm loving the contrast of @sammyjowilko‘s bold floral wallpaper.

Floral and garden designs have proven to be timeless. Incorporating any outdoor-inspired elements essentially works to welcome the essence of the natural world into the living space.

Amazingly versatile, the botanical trend is one that can be easily adopted by anybody and weaved into existing décors – even in small spaces.

Take inspiration from how @oshutthefrontdoor has decorated a small space with some bright blooms and pretty plants.

To enhance the beautiful botanical theme in your home, I suggest thinking about how best to use accessories and simple ways to make a truly cohesive scheme.

These elements are far more interchangeable and will be easier to switch out when the time comes for your next style change.

Here are some of my easy ways to add floral flurries to your home:

  • Add pops of greenery in a neutral room to evoke a sense of the outdoors
  • Embrace your inner florist and arrange some beautiful blooms – fresh or fake - to make a glorious bouquet in your living space; or alternatively, pop singular flowers or tufts of sprigs into collections of small quirky vases and bottles and place them sporadically around the home
  • Framed floral prints are a simple yet effective way of adding a splash of colour to any wall
  • Get creative and upcycle a piece of furniture - add some peelable floral wallpaper to the back of a bookshelf or drinks cabinet for a pop of petal power
  • Play with texture and contrast by picking out a green or garden-inspired rug to add some visual interest to a room or space. Try our Plush Rug in green to add some spring day feels.
  • Soft furnishings: Add some outdoor-inspired accent cushions to a sofa or chair, swap your plain curtains for a flower or luscious leafy design or add a flowery tablecloth to freshen up your dining room
  • Adorn your home with an array of potted plants – adding a homely feel and evoking a sense of peace and serenity
  • Lighting and lampshades can be a great way to add a subtle nod to the trend. Give your home an extra glow with the striking design of our Ivy Silver Lamp.

What colours go with the botanical trend?

Naturally, green is an ideal choice for creating an essence of the outdoors and bringing out the colours found organically across nature.

Surprisingly versatile, the many beautiful shades of green can complement countless colour schemes. From rich tones of emerald and dark bottle green, softer hues of olive to daring dashes of bright lime.

Bountiful in possibilities, each offering presents a glorious possibility of an instant refresh.

Gorgeous greens aside, the botanicals trend takes inspiration from earthy colours such as brown, beige, and terracotta tones.

All part of a neutral family, these colours benefit from blending effortlessly into most colour schemes – and can be coupled with any pop of colour to bring boldness to any space.

A staple of the spring look, the timeless pastel palette can never be underestimated. Pretty pinks can be paired perfectly with bold blues, rich greens and orange tones of gold or mustard.

If you’ve been a fan of the everlasting grey trend, some sunny statement hues of yellow will add a colourful contrast and help give your living space a warm glow.
